Natures Clocks (book review)
13. Title :- Natures Clocks – How scientists measure the age of almost everything.
By :- Doug Macdougall.
Published :- University of California Press, 2008. (240 pages)
Outline :- The history of Carbon dating and its impact on many facets of today’s world. The history of radioactive dating and the ability to measure geological time directly, leading also to the determination of the age of the planet. Interestingly a sandstone from Western Australia contains zircon dated to 4,404 mill year with theoretical age of earth at 4,550 mill year – meaning the development of surface water / seas is earlier than previously thought. This radioactive dating relies upon the lead isotope, and early tests identified that lead from petrol was throughout our urban world and was the primer to get lead out of petrol.
