Islam, Law and Equality in Indonesia (book review)
12. Title :- Islam, Law and Equality in Indonesia – An anthropology of public reasoning.
By :- John R. Bowen.
Published :-Cambridge University Press, UK, 2003 ( 270 pages)
Outline :- Looks at verses in Koran and other such religious guidance books and how they have been interpreted. Indonesian Islamic scholars have not taken the words of the religious books literally and so stayed in the 7th Centenary, but seem to have taken a unique approach to applying the Islam and merged the traditional village “adat” way of life . The scholars have reasoned around broader interpretations and thus managed to keep religion as an up to date livable way of life in modern Indonesia. Marriage, divorce and division of property play a significant lead roll in many of the important issues.
