The Deep Hot Biosphere (book review)
19. Title :- The Deep Hot Biosphere;-The myth of Fossil Fuels.
By :- Thomas Gold
Published :-Copernicus Books -New York. 1999, soft cover 2001 (230 pages)
Outline :- Starts out well by theorizing that earth planet core fractionates some methane that can work its way to the surface, as it seeps though sediments bacteria at hundreds of meters below the surface convert some into heavier tars & oils etc. This theory was tested in Sweeden by drilling through granites to close to the mantle, but drilling trouble and mixed interpretations resulted in debatable results – certainly not commercial quantities of oil. However the book deteriorates into “pushing his point to extreme” and claims all oil & coal is not plant based, but from such deep earth sources, accompanied with poor rational detracts from the good start of the book – into rubbish.
