The Jakarta Post (30 Sep 14) reports on the Governments second part of an economic stimulus package aimed at cutting red tape and stimulating investment. Under the section of Siti Nurbaya Bakar (Environment and forestry minister) is included point 2 – License to use forestry area for exploration and production;

  • For mining, gold, bauxite, coal etc.
  • Length of permit issuance cut to 3- 5 days for exploration and 12 days for production.
  • Recommendation from regional government, or governor, to be obtained within 4 days at the latest, or otherwise central government will take over.
  • Will cut down forest area use permit issuance to 12 – 15 days, from 2 – 4 years previously.

This looks like “One small step for Forestry and one giant leap for Exploration and Mining”
